Eagles

Philadelphia went two years without an NFL team after the Frankford Yellow Jackets, champions of 1926, folded in 1931 under the weight of the Depression and a stadium fire. Bert Bell and Lud Wray filled that gap in 1933, taking on the Yellow Jackets' liquidated assets and naming the new club after the Blue Eagle, the emblem Franklin Roosevelt had put on the National Recovery Administration's posters that same year.

The Eagles' colours are officially Midnight Green, Silver, Black and White; Kelly Green, the shade older fans still associate with the club, survives only on throwback jerseys pulled out for the odd retro game.

Three NFL Championships came before the Super Bowl existed, in 1948, 1949 and 1960, built around Chuck Bednarik's two-way football and Norm Van Brocklin's passing. What followed was a run of near-misses: defeats in Super Bowl XV, then in Super Bowl XXXIX to the New England Patriots and in Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs. Both defeats were answered in turn. Donovan McNabb's generation gave way to Jalen Hurts, and the Eagles beat the Patriots in Super Bowl LII and, seven years later, the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Sundays at Lincoln Financial Field remain shaped by the older rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys.

Super Bowl LIX finished 40–22.
