Warhawks

Two teams on opposite banks of the Humber estuary each had a side of their own before they were joined. The Kingston Warhawks began in Hull in 2012, and the Grimsby Scorpions played across the water. In 2014 the two merged.

The merger tied two towns together. It competes in the British American Football Association (BAFA) National Leagues, the amateur pyramid that runs beneath the sport's few professional outlets in Britain.

The results that show what that level demands are the lopsided ones. On 19 May 2024 the Warhawks met the Sheffield Giants and lost 57–13. The Giants were left with the points, and the Warhawks with a reminder of how far a side built from a merger can trail an established rival when the game gets away from it early.
