**Hard Rock Stadium**

The stadium’s most visible feature is the sweeping white truss that braces the roof, a silhouette that cuts against the sky over Miami Gardens. Inside, the seats are a uniform teal, and the turf is marked with the word “MIAMI” in large white letters across the center. Above the field, large screens display the game, framed by banners that have changed hands over the years, including those for Hard Rock and AutoNation.

The venue opened in 1987 as Joe Robbie Stadium, built on private money when public funding for sports facilities was rare. It was designed to be a multipurpose arena, and it quickly became known for two things: the weather and the capacity. The open roof lets the sun in during the day and the rain in during the night, a fact that has plagued games for decades. Super Bowl XLI in 2007 is still remembered more for the wet players than the football played.

A major renovation completed in 2017 tightened things up. The seating was reduced from its original 75,000 to just under 65,000 to improve the sightlines and add modern amenities. The pitch remains natural grass, which has held up reasonably well despite the heat, though it can cut up badly in the final minutes of a long game.

The stadium has hosted six Super Bowls and several World Series games when the Miami Marlins played here. It is also home to the Miami Hurricanes college team. In recent years, it has prepared for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, replacing the old turf with a hybrid surface to handle the international matches. The atmosphere can be electric, especially when the away end never stops, but the sheer size of the bowl often means the sound disperses before it reaches the players.
