Intercable Arena
Bruneck, Italy
Formerly: Rienzstadion, Leitner Solar Arena, Stadion an der Rienz
What makes this place different is not merely its facilities but how it sits at the edge of the town, framed by a hillside of yellowing larches and pine that rises sharply behind the building. The sweeping yellow roofline is easy to spot even from the car park, a bold contrast to the darker greens and golds of the forest.
This facility replaced the older Rienzstadion, which was demolished in 2023 after operating since the early 1970s. The new arena opened its doors in 2021, bringing a modern structure to Bruneck where hockey fans used to gather in a much smaller hall. It is the first venue in South Tyrol to house both an ice rink and a dedicated curling hall with two Olympic-sized sheets, making it a hub for winter sports beyond the board.
HC Pustertal Wölfe call this place home, playing in the ICE Hockey League. The club saw its first official match here in October 2021, a narrow loss to EC Red Bull Salzburg that did little to dampen local enthusiasm. The atmosphere inside can shift quickly; the away end never stopped during their recent quarter-final victory against HK Olimpija Ljubljana in March 2024. The capacity for such events is set at 3,100, a figure that has not changed since the venue’s inception.
For those who prefer culture over sport, the arena hosts "Disco on Ice" and classical performances by the local Collegium Musicum Bruneck. The facility is marketed broadly for conferences as well, but the core identity remains rooted in the community’s passion for ice. The address is Via dell’Arena 5, a location that has become synonymous with high-level competition in the region.
