Northwell Stadium
Pleasantville, United States
Formerly: Pace Stadium, Joseph R. Ianniello Field House
The press box at Northwell Stadium sits high above the stands, a long block of glass that looks out over the field. It is not a grand structure, but it is the only one of its kind in Pleasantville. The building itself is functional, with rows of windows and banners hanging from the upper level, including one that reads "Go Iowa State" in the photograph, though that belongs to a different venue entirely.
The ground beneath is artificial turf, marked with white lines that run straight to the goalposts. It is a small pitch for a small stadium, built for the Pace University Setters. The stands are tiered closely together, rising quickly from the touchline. There are not many seats: the capacity is often cited as 1,600, but on the day these pictures were taken, the empty rows looked far less crowded, closer to the 1,200 figure that Pace University Athletics lists for seated capacity.
In one image, a women’s soccer match is in progress, with players in yellow and blue moving across the green. The stadium hosted international fixtures, including a match between Brazil and Japan, which suggests it can hold its own against larger venues despite its modest size. The floodlights rise from the corners, casting a single bright spot in the evening sky, illuminating the field while the surrounding area remains in shadow.
The stadium opened in the spring of 2015, replacing the older Joseph R. Ianniello Field House, though the two names are sometimes used interchangeably. It was renamed Northwell Stadium when Northwell Health became the university’s healthcare partner, a sponsorship that has lasted through the 2023-24 season. The address is 1 Shirley Beth's Way, a quiet stretch of road in Westchester County. Nothing about the place announces itself; you have to find it, and then you have to look up to see it.
