About

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Championship for women stands as the premier professional basketball competition within the country. Locally referred to as Prvenstvo BiH, it operates under the authority of the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (KSBiH) at the first level of the national pyramid. The structure reflects a complex history shaped by political shifts and conflict during the 1990s. While the unified national league format began in the 2002–03 season, the championship acknowledges titles from earlier regional leagues that functioned between 1992 and 2002.

The competition involves a regular season followed by playoffs to crown the champion. Participation includes clubs such as Banovići, Čelik Zenica, Igman, Jedinstvo Dzenex, Jumper, and Konjic. Promotion and relegation link the national top tier with entity-level first leagues: the First League of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and the First League of Republika Srpska (RS). The winner of the RS First League secures promotion to the national top tier.

Željezničar Sarajevo holds the record for the most titles in the modern era since 1993, with fourteen championships. Jedinstvo Tuzla follows with six titles. In recent years, Igokea Laktaši has dominated, claiming the titles in 2019–20, 2021–22, 2022–23, and 2023–24. They currently hold the championship title. The league is distinct from the men's competition, which shares a similar structural framework but differs in team composition and historical dominance patterns.
