Liga Unike is a cross-border professional basketball league established in 2020. It brings together clubs from Albania and Kosovo in a single competition distinct from their respective domestic Superleagues. The tournament operates under the authority of the Albanian Basketball Federation and the Kosovo Basketball Federation.
The structure of the season typically involves eight teams. Four clubs represent each nation, selected based on their standing in the parallel national championships. The regular phase often takes the form of a group stage, leading into a knockout playoff period. This format allows the highest-performing sides from both countries to compete for regional supremacy.
The championship trophy is awarded annually to the winner of the final series. Golden Eagle Ylli holds the record for the most victories, securing the title in the inaugural 2020–21 campaign and again in 2025–26. They defeated Peja in the recent final with a score of 80–74. Other past winners include Peja, who claimed the title in 2021–22, Trepça in 2023–24, and Vëllaznimi in 2024–25. The competition was not held during the 2022–23 season.
Prestige within this league serves as a gateway to continental play. The champion earns direct qualification for European tournaments such as the FIBA Europe Cup. This status sits above the domestic tiers in terms of international exposure for the participating clubs. There is no promotion or relegation between Liga Unike and the national second divisions. Instead, performance in the Albanian and Kosovo Superleagues determines entry into this joint competition for the following season.
The initiative aims to raise the competitive standard for basketball in the region. By combining the best talents from both nations, the league provides a unique platform for athletes who might otherwise remain isolated within smaller domestic markets. The consistent presence of eight teams suggests stability in the structure despite the absence of a season in one year.
