FIBA U20 EuroBasket (EU) 2026/27

The FIBA U20 EuroBasket stands as the premier men’s under-20 championship across Europe. Organised by FIBA Europe, it represents the highest tier of the continental youth pyramid, positioned above the U18 and U16 competitions. The tournament operates through a two-division structure that ensures competitive balance. Division A, the top tier, hosts 16 nations split into four groups of four. Following the group stage, the strongest sides progress to knockout rounds. The bottom three teams in this division face relegation to Division B, while the leading three nations from the second tier earn promotion. Founded in 1992 in Athens, the event began as the European Championship for Men ‘22 and Under. It transitioned to an under-20 age limit in 2000 and became an annual fixture in 2005. While the U18 EuroBasket serves as the primary qualifier for the U19 World Cup, the U20 competition remains a distinct continental title and the final stop before senior international basketball. Serbia holds the record for most gold medals with five victories, including titles in 1998, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2015. In the most recent final, Slovenia secured the crown by defeating Serbia 84–65. Individual excellence is also celebrated within the tournament’s history. Nikola Mirotić set a single-tournament scoring average of 27.0 points per game in 2011, while Mantas Juzėnas achieved a single-game record of 46 points in 2026. These milestones highlight the high standard of play expected at this level. The competition continues to develop as a critical platform for emerging talent, with nations like Latvia and Croatia regularly competing in the lower division.
