San Pablo Burgos defeated Força Lleida 94-81 in the ACB on Sunday, extending their advantage in the standings with a convincing road victory. The result moves the visitors into 13th place while leaving Lleida in 14th, both sides remaining level on 12 wins and 22 losses after 34 games.
We had backed the home side with 55 per cent confidence, but the match went another way. Burgos built their lead through sustained shooting accuracy and a clear advantage on the glass, while Lleida could not find a rhythm when the game opened up.
The visitors shot 35 of 73 from the field and connected on 9 of 23 three-point attempts, compared to 30 of 68 and 6 of 32 for the hosts. Rebounding told a similar story: 38 to 31 overall, with 13 offensive boards for Burgos against 10 for Lleida. Turnovers were even at 15 and 16, though the guests took more steals, 10 to 8.
Free throws were level at 15 each, and defensive blocks favoured the hosts 8 to 1. Fouls were slightly higher for the visitors, 23 to 21, but that did not slow their attack. Assist numbers showed a gap in ball movement, 14 for Burgos and 20 for Lleida, yet the extra passes did not translate into scores.
Lleida came into the fixture after a narrow 105-100 win over Valencia, while Burgos had lost 97-98 at Vitoria-Gasteis on Saturday. Both sides have now played 34 matches with identical records, but the gap in points remains one, and the visitors hold the tiebreaker.
