Hamburg Towers — Chemnitz 99 Niners: 94:90, BBL

Hamburg Towers claimed a 94-90 victory over Chemnitz 99 Niners in the BBL on 25 September 2026. The home side kept their nerve in a game that tightened as it went along, closing out the result despite Chemnitz's persistent pressure. It marked a shift from their recent form, where results had been unpredictable.

The match unfolded with Hamburg building momentum through their offensive rebounding, winning the board battle 43-47 in their favour despite Chemnitz securing more defensive stops. Both sides traded possessions without letting the lead grow beyond single digits for long stretches. By then the game had settled into a rhythm where each basket was answered quickly.

We had backed the home side at 52 per cent confidence, and that call held water. Hamburg's ability to generate extra possessions through offensive rebounds — 17 to Chemnitz's 16 — proved decisive in a tight contest. They converted those opportunities into points while Chemnitz struggled to find consistency from beyond the arc.

Shooting statistics tell the story of who edged closer to their targets. Hamburg connected on 38 field goals from 89 attempts and 7 three-pointers from 31 tries, while Chemnitz managed 35 from 83 and 6 from 29. The free throw differential also mattered — Chemnitz made 14 of 17 attempts compared to Hamburg's 11 of 13.

Turnovers became the differentiator in the closing stages. Chemnitz surrendered 25 turnovers throughout the game against Hamburg's 18, and those extra possessions proved costly when the margin was razor-thin. Hamburg's 14 steals forced errors that the visitors could not recover from.

The result moves Hamburg off the back of a heavy 96-72 defeat to Bonn Telekom Basket on 19 September, offering a response to that performance. Chemnitz arrive here after losing 89-82 to ALBA Berlin on 18 September, a result that leaves them chasing momentum. Both sides showed flashes of their potential but only one could convert them into points when it counted.
