Gimle BBK secured a comfortable 96-75 victory over TNT Towers at home on Friday in the Belgian League, extending their own winning streak while leaving the hosts to reflect on another difficult evening.
The result keeps the visitors firmly in second place with 22 wins from 27 games, while the home side's position at the bottom half of the table seems increasingly precarious.
By then, the gap between these two sides had become impossible to ignore. Gimle's 22 victories against just five defeats told a very different story from TNT Towers' six wins and 21 losses. The scoreboard simply confirmed what the table already showed.
To be fair, the visitors hadn't been playing flawlessly all season - their recent 80-68 win over Fyllingen and 90-84 victory against Konsberg Miners were tighter affairs. But after those narrow margins, they turned it on against a home side that had lost five of their last six matches, including a 64-159 hammering earlier in the season.
We had called for the away win at 68 per cent confidence before kickoff, and the match unfolded exactly as expected. The home team sat deep and soaked it up for as long as they could, but once Gimle found their rhythm, TNT Towers were left flat-footed and couldn't recover.
The 21-point margin leaves TNT Towers with 15 games remaining and a mountain to climb if they want to avoid the drop. Gimle, meanwhile, continue to control their own destiny in the race for the top two spots.
