Vejen secured a 92-80 victory over Vörlöse BBK in the Basketligan on Thursday evening. The result shifts the dynamic between two sides sitting on opposite ends of the table. The home side had not looked like it would climb away from the bottom, but they found a way through on this occasion.
The game opened with a steady rhythm, neither side pulling clear immediately. By the halfway point the hosts had built a cushion, and the visitors struggled to find a response. To be fair, Vörlöse kept pushing but the margin grew rather than closed.
We had backed Vejen at 52 per cent confidence before kickoff, and the result vindicated that call. It was not a dominant display, but the hosts held their nerve when the visitors threatened to claw back.
On the floor the statistics tell a story of efficiency. Vejen converted 34 of 63 field goals and hit 18 of 20 free throws, while Vörlöse managed 29 of 70 shots with only eight of 12 from the line. The visitors were more active from distance, landing 14 three-pointers to Vejen's six, but the conversion rate from inside the arc carried the day.
Rebounding was another telling area. Vejen collected 34 boards against 27 for the visitors, with a particular edge on the defensive glass where they pulled down 26 to 17. That extra possession time allowed them to control the tempo and keep Vörlöse guessing.
Turnovers told a similar tale, with Vejen committing 15 compared to 19 for the visitors. Those extra possessions, combined with their shooting accuracy, meant the hosts could extend their lead without needing a run of three-pointers.
The result leaves Vejen still in 11th place after 22 games, three wins and 19 defeats, while Vörlöse remain seventh with 11 wins and 11 losses. For the home side this is a point they needed, even if the table position has not changed. The gap between them and the visitors is now 12 points, and that price has gone.
