Lisa Leslie becomes first Sparks player honoured with bronze statue
The WNBA legend was unveiled in bronze outside Crypto.com Arena's Star Plaza, joining Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal as the 16th person to be honoured there.
Lisa Leslie has become the first Sparks player to be cast in bronze, with a statue unveiled outside the Crypto.com Arena.
She is the 16th person honoured on the square known as Star Plaza, where Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West and Pat Riley already stand, among others. Leslie was the first woman to dunk in a WNBA game and the first to sign with a modelling agency.
Her college coach Marianne Stanley attended the ceremony, as did Lakers legends Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, James Worthy and Michael Cooper. Candace Parker, a former Sparks team-mate and fellow Hall of Famer, was also there.
Over 12 years in the WNBA, Leslie was named MVP three times and led the Sparks to the titles in 2001 and 2002.
