Oscar Thompson: Detroit forward vows to be more aggressive in attack

Oscar Thompson, a forward for Detroit, has outlined a shift in his approach for the coming season, stating he intends to be more aggressive in attack.

He admitted that sometimes he must consciously avoid unnecessary selflessness and take advantage of favorable situations himself. "I can beat a smaller player or attack a favorable matchup, but instead I see a teammate who perhaps does not even have the same advantage as me, and I pass to him," Thompson said. "You should not be too selfless, because that is already selfishness. I can help the team if I attack such a competitor myself."

The 23-year-old also confirmed he is working on expanding his range on offense. He explained that the five-year, $155 million extension reflects his value. Last season he made the NBA's first Defensive Player of the Year team and intends to feature regularly in the future. "I don't hope for it — I expect it. It happened last year," he stated.

Regarding the team, Thompson said he wants them to play with full effort, act together and move the ball. He expects constant movement, easy baskets, and opponents struggling to keep pace.
