Zenit guard Shcherbenev tears cruciate ligament, out for season
The 25-year-old was hurt in the opener against Uralmash after 15 minutes on court. Surgery is planned soon, and recovery time will be announced later.
Zenit guard Alexander Shcherbenev has torn a cruciate ligament in his knee and is expected to miss the whole 2026/27 season.
The 25-year-old was hurt in the third quarter of the season opener against Uralmash. He needed help to leave the floor. Before the injury he had played 15 minutes and recorded 5 points and 5 assists.
A medical examination confirmed the tear. Shcherbenev is to undergo surgery in the near future. Recovery time will be announced later.
If the season-long absence holds, Zenit will have to run their backcourt without a player who was productive in the first game of the campaign. How they cover the position may become clear in the coming weeks.
