Lakers Explored Buddy Hield Trade, Then Backed Away
Los Angeles weighed sending two players plus a second-round pick for Hield to fix a 16-man roster, but ultimately scrapped the deal before opening night.
The Los Angeles Lakers looked at a deal for Buddy Hield before deciding against it, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
The roster problem is simple arithmetic. Los Angeles currently carries 16 players on its books, one over the permitted limit of 15, and needed to shed a body before the season gets under way.
Siegel reported that the Lakers explored moving two players for Hield, who would likely have had to come with a second-round pick attached to make the money work on their end. The exact reason the move fell through has not been disclosed.
Hield has changed clubs several times in recent seasons and by all accounts remains available on the trade market. For Los Angeles, the roster crunch has not gone away, and the club will need to find another way to get down to 15 before opening night.
