Ante Kavelj made his senior debut away from Split, in the second tier, before ever pulling on a first-team shirt for Hajduk Split. He came through the Hajduk Split academy, arriving there in August 2021 after starting out at RNK Split, and worked his way up through the U17 and U19 sides before signing his first professional contract with Hajduk in August 2023. That deal did not translate into first-team football: instead, Hajduk sent him out on loan to NK Solin for the 2023–2024 season, where he finally stepped onto a senior pitch, making 13 appearances in the 2. HNL.

With no path back into Hajduk's first team, Kavelj left on a free transfer in July 2024 for HNK Šibenik. It was there that he reached the top flight, becoming a regular during the 2024–2025 season and making his 1. HNL debut on 15 September 2024 against NK Varaždin.

That season was enough to earn him another move: in July 2025 he joined HNK Gorica on a free transfer, signing a contract that runs until June 2028. A 186cm midfielder, he now goes into the 2025–2026 season looking to build on the top-flight experience gathered at Šibenik. Kavelj has yet to add a major trophy to his career, and Gorica have not won either the league or the Croatian Cup since he arrived at the club.
