Diego Barreto

Diego Barreto has built his career on movement rather than permanence, passing through clubs in Paraguay, Colombia, Bolivia and Guatemala since his career began at Grêmio in 2013. The Asunción-born midfielder came through the youth ranks at Grêmio, Flamengo and Olimpia before starting out as a senior professional back at Grêmio itself.

His path since then has rarely stayed still for long: spells at Deportivo Capiatá, General Díaz, Alianza Petrolera, Atlético Huila and River Plate de Asunción took him across three countries before he settled, for a period, at Sportivo Iteño and then Sportivo Ameliano. It was with Ameliano that he had his clearest moment of success, winning the Copa Paraguay in 2022. A loan took him to Comunicaciones in Guatemala the following year before he returned to Ameliano, then moved on again to Bolivia's Oriente Petrolero, and back to Ameliano once more in January 2025.

Barreto joined Atlético Grau as a free agent at the start of 2026, his first move into Peruvian football. He has made 20 appearances in the Liga 1 this season, contributing one goal and two assists from midfield.
