About the player
Federico Viñas grew up in Montevideo and made his professional debut for Juventud de Las Piedras in April 2018, helping the club earn promotion to the Uruguayan Primera División the following year. América made the move permanent, and Viñas finished with 24 goals in 121 appearances for the club before a free transfer took him to Club León in 2023 as part of a deal also involving Kevin Álvarez.
León is where he had his best individual campaign: 16 goals in 33 games made him joint top scorer of the Clausura 2024, level with Antuna, Cambindo and Rondón, and he was named Liga MX Player of the Month that November. A season-long loan to Real Oviedo followed in 2024, spanning the Segunda División and La Liga.
Internationally, Viñas has earned 14 caps for Uruguay and scored twice, including a goal against Peru in qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He also picked up individual recognition at continental level, being named Best Young Player and included in the Team of the Tournament at the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League during his time at América.
