Madison Hammond

Madison Hammond's NWSL career opened with a first: on 26 September 2020 she stepped onto the pitch for OL Reign and became the first Native American player to appear in the league, then made it a double a month later, on 28 October, when she started against Portland Thorns FC and became the first Native American to start an NWSL match. Hammond is of Navajo and San Felipe Pueblo heritage, and in 2022 she became the first Afro-Indigenous athlete to walk the red carpet at the ESPY Awards.

Before turning professional, Hammond spent four years at Wake Forest University, where she captained the side twice, was named Second-Team All-ACC in 2019, and made the All-ACC Academic team in each of her four seasons. She went undrafted in the 2020 NWSL College Draft before signing with OL Reign.

In March 2022, her rights moved to Angel City FC in a trade that brought OL Reign a second-round pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft along with allocation money. She went on to make 72 regular-season appearances for Angel City FC. Her first NWSL goal arrived on 27 August 2023, and fittingly it was a match-winner against her former side, OL Reign.

Hammond signed with Utah Royals in December 2025 on a two-year contract running through 2027, arriving as a free agent after her spell at Angel City. She is right-footed but has been described as an ambidextrous passer, a trait that suits her role in midfield. She has not yet earned a senior cap for the United States women's national team.
