About the player
Miyabi Moriya spent a decade at INAC Kobe Leonessa before testing herself abroad. She joined the club in 2015 straight out of the JFA Academy Fukushima, having come through the youth ranks at Entrada SC and Nara Katsuragi Girls in her native Nara Prefecture. Over 129 league appearances for Kobe she scored eight goals and helped the side win the inaugural WE League title in the 2021–22 season. Individual recognition followed: she was named the WE League's Valuable Player for 2022–23 and made the Best XI the following season.
In January 2025 she left Japan for Angel City FC in the NWSL, making 25 appearances in her debut season with one goal and two assists. Utah Royals FC signed her that December on a salary-cap-exempt deal, and by July 2026 the club had extended her contract through the 2028 season.
Moriya made her senior international debut for Japan in 2023 and has since earned 29 caps and two goals, including strikes against India in Olympic qualifying and against Vietnam in a friendly, both in late October and early November 2023. She was part of the Japan squad that beat Costa Rica in the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup and went on to play at the 2024 Paris Olympics. More recently, she featured in Japan's title-winning campaigns at the 2025 SheBelieves Cup and the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup.
