About the player
Óscar Whalley was born in Zaragoza. He came through Real Zaragoza's academy after starting out at UD Amistad, and made 22 league appearances for the first team between 2014 and 2016. His career path ran through a string of clubs: Sporting de Gijón, a spell in Denmark with AGF Aarhus, Greece with OFI Crete, and then back to Spain with CD Castellón. He made 68 league appearances for CD Lugo over two seasons.
Whalley joined Guadalajara on a free transfer in 2023, on a contract running to 2027, and has spent much of his time there as understudy to Raúl Rangel. He has been given starts in the Clausura 2026 tournament and in the Leagues Cup, including a full 90 minutes in a 2-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC, and has also featured for the club in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Eligible through family ties to represent Mexico or England as well as Spain, he has not been capped by any senior national side.
