Twice Al-Ghazal has come within one match of a trophy and twice come away with silver: the South Sudan National Cup final in 2014, lost to Al-Malakia FC, and the same fixture in 2018, lost to Al-Merikh FC. A year after that first final they went even closer to the league itself, finishing runners-up in the South Sudan Premier League in 2015, beaten by Atlabara FC.
The club carries those near-misses out of Wau, and it was that 2015 league finish that opened the door beyond South Sudan: Al-Ghazal took part in the CAF Confederation Cup that year, then in the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds in 2016, where they were drawn against Zambia's ZESCO United.
Founded in 2009, Al-Ghazal FC plays in yellow and blue. The name means "the gazelle" in Arabic, though no shortened nickname has stuck to the club the way it has elsewhere.
Home games are played at Wau Stadium, a ground that holds 1,500 people.
