The Stade Municipal de Niamey holds around 5,000 people, a scale that suits a club whose business is not filling terraces but filling a first team with players who grew up watching from them. AS Zam moves to the far larger Stade Général Seyni Kountché only when a fixture outgrows its own ground.

The name traces to the mining sector rather than to Goudel, the Niamey quarter it is popularly tied to, and the club has run since 2012 as something closer to a nursery than a trophy chase, built around developing local talent rather than importing it.

That patience showed in 2025–26. AS Zam finished ninth in the Super Ligue, unremarkable on its own, but reached the final of the Coupe Nationale, its deepest run since a semi-final exit to AS GNN back in 2018. ASN Nigelec beat them 3–1 there on the way to a treble, denying AS Zam the one trophy that would have crowned fourteen years of quietly stocking the first team from within. The run was enough to send the club into the qualifying rounds of the 2026–27 CAF Confederation Cup, where a tie against ASKO Kara awaited in September.

Local rivalries with ASN Nigelec, AS GNN and Olympic FC de Niamey give the season its edges, though none carries a name of its own the way derbies elsewhere do. What AS Zam has instead is a runners-up medal from 2026.
