The club has had to earn its way back onto that calendar more than once. It started out in 1972 under Andrew "Andy" Stoglin, a former Harlem Globetrotter, and within a year had already won the CIMEBA title, beating Dorados de Chihuahua. A second championship followed in 1974 under Rodolfo Reyna Soto, making Panteras the circuit's first back-to-back winners. The run did not last: the 1976 currency devaluation wrecked the club's finances, and it shut down after the 1975 season. A 1987 comeback fared no better in the long run, and the team folded again in 1999.

It took the state government and the Ramírez Orozco brothers to bring the Panteras back in 2003, and the team won the LNBP Championship in its very first season back, beating Ola Roja del Distrito Federal 4-2 in the final, with Fabián Jaimes established as the player the franchise would keep returning to across several stints. A Centro-American Club Championship followed in 2004. Private ownership eventually pushed the state symbol off the crest, and the name shortened to Panteras Aguascalientes in 2011.

Home games are played in front of 3,000 at the Gimnasio Hermanos Carreón, under the yellow and black of a club whose mascot, Benny, carries the panther through to the merchandise.
