Chargers

Jim Harbaugh took over as head coach in February 2024. The stadium tells part of the story on its own: SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, where the team has played since 2020, sits close to the site the franchise left in 1961.

Fifty-six seasons followed in San Diego, through Balboa Stadium and three later grounds, before the Chargers came back north in 2017. The only league title from that long run came early: the 1963 AFL Championship, a 51–10 defeat of the Boston Patriots. Dan Fouts carried that style of play into the following decades, and Junior Seau became the defensive face of the franchise through the 1990s and early 2000s.

The 1994 season brought the club's only Super Bowl appearance, a 49–26 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and no run since has matched it. Ten AFC West titles have come in the years since the AFL-NFL merger, the most recent in 2009, without a further trip to the championship game.

Dean Spanos has held full ownership since 2018, a family stake in a franchise that carries the nickname the Bolts and colours of powder blue and gold. The nearest rival stayed close through every relocation: the Raiders followed a similar path between Oakland and Los Angeles, and the AFC West meetings between the two clubs still carry the weight of two franchises that have spent much of their history chasing each other up and down the same coast.
