Cougars

The Cougars open the 2026 season in the Regionalliga Nord, third tier of German American football, after dropping out of the GFL2 at the end of 2025.

USC Lübeck's American football section formed in 1987, made up of players who had left the Lübeck Outlaws. The one season in the top-flight GFL came in 2012, as a replacement team, and lasted exactly that long: the Cougars went straight back down. Three times since — 2014, 2015 and 2019 — they reached the GFL2 final and lost it each time.

No player is tied to the club more closely than Philipp Stursberg, a linebacker and defensive end who came through from 1995 to 2014 and later coached the team he had played for. In 2010 he became the first Cougars player capped by the German national team, then won the European Championship with it that year and again in 2014, having also spent 2005 with the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europe.

Home games are played at the Stadion Buniamshof, which holds 8,549.

Three rivalries structure the calendar. Against Rostock Griffins it is the Ostseederby, the Baltic Sea derby; against Hamburg Pioneers, the Hansestadt-Derby; and against Hamburg Huskies and Elmshorn Fighting Pirates, grouped together as the Nord-Derby.
