Desportivo Huíla

Desportivo Huíla go into another Girabola campaign. The closest they have come was second place in the 2018–19 season, behind Primeiro de Agosto, and the pattern has repeated itself in the Taça de Angola, most recently in 2022. Petro de Luanda has been the recurring obstacle, beating them in the 2002 and 2013 finals.

The frustration extended to the Supertaça de Angola in 2019, when Desportivo Huíla won the first leg 1–0 against Primeiro de Agosto only to lose the tie on aggregate. Domestically, in the province itself, the club had already settled the matter early, taking the Campeonato Provincial da Huíla in 2001.

On the pitch, continental football has been brief: a 2014 run in the CAF Confederation Cup ended at the preliminary round against CA Bizertin.

Matches against Benfica Lubango carry their own weight in the city as the Lubango Derby. Everything plays out at the Estádio Nacional da Tundavala, built for the 2010 Africans Cup of Nations and known to the club's own supporters as the home of "Os Leões da Tundavala" — the Lions of Tundavala, red and black against the stands of Lubango.
