Recreativo da Caála

The stadium that hosted Recreativo da Caála for decades carried the name of the Mártires da Canhala until it was rebuilt and reopened as the Estádio Daniel Cassoma Lutucuta, seating 10,000. In 2010, under Rui Gregório, Caalences finished the Girabola as runners-up, beaten to the title by Petro de Luanda.

The result carried weight beyond the table. It sent Caalences into the 2011 CAF Confederation Cup, where they went out in the first round, and two years later they reached the second round of the same competition. In 2012 the club added a second Vice-Championship, this time in the Taça de Angola, finishing behind the eventual winners without ever landing the trophy itself.

Caalences, as the club is known locally, plays in blue and white at home, a colour scheme that has stayed put through spells with coaches such as Ricardo Formosinho, Victor Manuel and João Kódia. Paizinho carried the attack in 2015 and 2016, finishing as the club's top scorer in both seasons.

The two sides sit roughly 23 kilometres apart, Caála and the provincial capital, and their meetings are billed as the Dérbi do Planalto Central, sometimes the Dérbi Colonial.

A Girabola title and a Taça de Angola have both slipped past Recreativo da Caála by a single place, in 2010 and 2012, and neither has come any closer since.
