Eagles

Chuck Bednarik played both ways for the Eagles into the late 1960s. That team won the NFL Championship that same year, its third since 1933, following titles in 1948 and 1949 under Earle "Greasy" Neale. The next league championship took nearly six decades to arrive, and it came in a different shape altogether.

Super Bowl LII, in February 2018, ended a wait that had swallowed five losing trips to the game, including defeats to the Oakland Raiders and twice to the New England Patriots. Philadelphia beat the Patriots 41–33 that night. In February 2025, the Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40–22 for a second Super Bowl title. Jalen Hurts and Jason Kelce were on the field for both wins.

The rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys runs older and meaner than either trophy, sharpened in 1989 when the Eagles were accused of putting a bounty on Dallas players in a game that came to be called the Bounty Bowl. Against Washington, the edge showed itself in the 1990 "Body Bag Game," and against Pittsburgh it carries a stranger footnote: during the Second World War, when rosters thinned, the two clubs merged for a season into a team known as the Steagles.
