May 2025 ended a wait Fram's men had grown used to. The league title that season came alongside the Icelandic Cup, a double the club had never managed before, and it arrived nineteen years after the previous championship, in 2006, had itself closed out a drought stretching back to 1972. Between 1950 and 1972 the team had barely let the title go, taking it eight times; what followed was thirty-four years without one, so 2006 mattered as proof the run could start again, and 2025 as proof it was not a one-off.

The women's side has never needed that kind of reassurance. Twenty championships sit alongside the men's eleven, five of them taken in a row from 1950 to 1954 and seven more between 1984 and 1990 — spells of control the men's team has only approached, never matched.

Fram grew out of a general sports club founded in 1908, with handball following decades later: the men started regular competition in February 1940, the women in the mid-1940s. Supporters go by Framarar, and matches against Valur, the other side from the capital, are billed as the Reykjavík derby.
