The championships of 2014, 2018 and 2023 sit alongside four wins in the Coca-Cola Bikarinn, and in 2014 the club added the Champions of Champions title by beating Haukar.
Weeks after the club celebrated that championship, goalkeeper Kolbeinn Aron Arnarson died in December of that year at the age of 29.
It grew out of two youth clubs, Þór and Týr, founded in 1913 and 1921, which ran their own teams for decades before merging under ÍBV in 1996 to bring senior football and handball under one roof. The men's side has carried the ÍBV name in the top flight since the 1986–87 season, playing in the club's established blue and white.
