«Golden Rams»
West Chester University fielded a football team as early as 1920. That distinction still holds: the Golden Rams have never taken an NCAA Division II national title. Nineteen Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships stretch from the postwar years, when West Chester won six titles between 1946 and 1961, through to 2018, when the Golden Rams beat Slippery Rock 33–10 to claim the crown again.
The team plays at Tomlinson–Fillippo Field at Farrell Stadium, which holds 7,500, in purple and gold.
The clearest link to the professional game belongs to Joe Senser, a tight end who went through West Chester before joining the Minnesota Vikings in 1980. He spent five seasons in Minnesota and made the Pro Bowl in 1981, the high point of a career that started on this same field.
