Highbury

Port Elizabeth, on the Eastern Cape coast, has long split its footballing loyalty among several clubs fighting for a foothold in the professional pyramid, and Highbury only became part of that picture in 2012, when it bought the license of Natal Professionals and moved south from Durban. The club had started life there in the 1990s before owner Cameron Klopper took charge in 2000.

Highbury plays in yellow, a colour that gave the club its nickname, The Yellow Nation, and it settled at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium, a 10,000-capacity ground.

That changed in the 2023–24 season. Highbury won the SAFA Second Division's Eastern Cape stream and then beat Kruger United 2–0 in the national playoffs to take the ABC Motsepe League title, earning promotion to the National First Division for the first time. Kabelo Sibiya, appointed head coach in November 2022, took the team up in his first full campaign. Captain and goalkeeper Mlungisi Mazibuko played a key role through the run, while forward Mzoxolo Rafani finished as top scorer, including both goals in the playoff final against Kruger United.

Highbury now takes that promotion into the 2024–25 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
