Južni Velebit Women

Southern Velebit is a stretch of Croatian coastal mountains and the national park that carries its name, running down toward the Adriatic behind towns such as Senj — a place known for wind, karst ridges and hiking trails, not for a handball hall or a league table. No club by the name Južni Velebit appears on the rosters of the Portuguese top flight, the Campeonato Placard Andebol Feminino, where the current season's line-up runs through SL Benfica, Madeira Andebol SAD, CD Colégio de Gaia, Alavarium, ADA São Pedro do Sul, ABC Braga, CJ Almeida Garrett, Maiastars, CA Leça, SIM Porto Salvo and CD Feirense.

The region the name points to has its own handball history, though it belongs to men's and women's sides that carry different names. RK Senj, a men's club from the town nearest the mountain range, has represented that stretch of coast since the 1950s. On the women's side, ŽRK Senia plays out of the same town under its own identity. Neither has fielded a side abroad, and neither has ever been entered in a Portuguese women's division.

A geographic name and a competition entry have ended up sharing a line without sharing a club behind them, which leaves nothing to say about colours, a ground or a run of results — only the mountain, the park, and the year 1956, when Senj's own handball side first took the pitch.
