Kars 36 Spor's biggest run at silverware came in the Kars 1. Amatör Ligi, which it won twice, in 2016–17 and again in 2018–19, the second title bringing direct promotion to the Bölgesel Amatör Lig, the fourth tier of Turkish football.
Businessman Muharrem Yıldız set the club up in 2016. Green and white shirts followed, and with them the nickname Yeşil-Beyazlılar, The Green-Whites.
The club's furthest reach came in the 2017–18 Ziraat Turkish Cup, still an amateur side at the time. Kars 36 beat Balıkesirspor on penalties in the third round, then Altınordu 1-0 in the fourth, both clubs from the professional TFF First League. Gençlerbirliği ended the run in the fifth round, 2-1.
Staying in the Bölgesel Amatör Lig has not always been straightforward: for the 2022–23 season, the club had to win a play-out match against Serhat Kars Spor, settled 1-0.
Local matches are measured against Karsgücü FK, the opponent in what is known as the Kars Derbisi. Beyond the city, Sarıkamış Spor provides a provincial rivalry.
