About

The Ziraat Türkiye Kupası stands as the main domestic cup in Turkish football, run by the Turkish Football Federation. It began in 1962 to pick the national side for the European Cup Winners' Cup. The competition brings together clubs from every level of the game. While the Süper Lig keeps its 20 teams in a closed loop, this tournament opens its doors to the Süper Lig, TFF 1. Lig, TFF 2. Lig, TFF 3. Lig and the Turkish Regional Amateur League.

The structure changed heavily over time. Before 2005 it was a straight knockout. Later years saw experiments with groups, and the 2024–25 season settles on a hybrid model. Preliminary knockout rounds feed into a group stage with four groups of eight teams. The top two from each group move on to the quarter-finals. The knockout phase usually runs on single legs, with the final taking place at a neutral site.

Winning the cup earns a spot in the UEFA Europa League or the Conference League. Galatasaray leads the record books with 19 titles, a run that included four straight wins between 1963 and 1966. Beşiktaş sits next with 11 titles, and Trabzonspor follows with 10. Galatasaray holds the current title after beating Trabzonspor in the 2024–25 final. Beşiktaş claimed the 2023–24 edition.

The mix of professional and amateur teams creates chances for upsets that do not exist in the league. This variety keeps the competition distinct from the regular season. The inclusion of lower-tier sides adds a layer of unpredictability to the calendar. Clubs from the amateur ranks enter early and can face top-flight opponents if they progress. This structure rewards depth and resilience across the entire pyramid, rather than just the elite clubs.
