Handball arrived in the town through its schools: Professor Paolo Tomasi introduced the game to pupils in 1969, and the women's section came later, in 1990, formed through a merger with U.S. Garibaldina.

The senior side has never lifted a Scudetto or a Coppa Italia, but the academy has done the winning for it. In 2026 the Under-20s beat Cassano Magnago 25-24 in the final to take the national Under-20 title, a group that followed an Under-15 championship won in 2019 and a bronze at Under-20 level in 2022. Ligia Loredana Put wears Romania's colours, Dorra Chandarli plays for Tunisia, and Elisa Giovannini has been capped by Italy.

Home games are played in front of no more than 500 people at PalaFornai. The nickname Metallsider, taken from the sponsor on the shirt, is how the club is known locally rather than by its formal name.
