Pioneers

Hamburg's Stadtpark holds more than one field, and the Pioneers share the district with the police sports club that has carried them since the beginning — the team plays under the banner of SV Polizei Hamburg. What now lines up at the Platz am Jahnring traces back to 1988, when the Pioneers grew out of the earlier Hamburg Dolphins.

The ground itself, also known as Sportplatz Milchhalle, stays modest by design: a local pitch inside the Stadtpark rather than a stand-alone stadium, drawing crowds in the low hundreds for league games. When the fixture calls for more, the club has taken games to the Millerntor-Stadion and to the Volksparkstadion, putting an amateur side briefly on grounds built for tens of thousands.

Under Stefan Mau, the Pioneers have climbed the German pyramid step by step rather than in one leap: the Oberliga Schleswig-Holstein/Hamburg title in 2012, the Regionalliga North in 2023, and the GFL2 North championship in 2025, which put them into the second tier of German football for the 2026 season. None of that has yet produced a run at the German Bowl.

City rivalry in Hamburg belongs to American football's smaller stage but is no less felt for it: the Hamburg Derby against the Blue Devils is the fixture people mark on the calendar, with the Lübeck Cougars and Rostock Griffins supplying the wider regional needle. Red, black and white are the club's colours on both sides of that derby.
