Salon Vilpas Women

The women from Salo who won five Finnish championships did not play under the Vilpas name. They played as Pantterit, the Panthers, and the first of those titles came in 1999, only three years after the basketball department, Salon Vilpas Koripallo ry, had been set up as a club of its own. Basketball had been played in Salo since the 1940s, inside a sports society that dates to 1908. It took until the late 1990s for the women's side to become a separate force.

The Pantterit years ran to 2006. After that the team went back to the Salon Vilpas name, and the results went the other way. A season at national level in 2006–2007 came right after the switch.

It came back for 2025–2026 in the I Divisioona, the second tier of Finnish women's basketball. This is only the second time Vilpas has played at that level, and the first was the single season of 2006–2007. No trophy has followed the Pantterit years.

The women wear red, black and white, the same colours as the men's team, the Vilpas Vikings. Nobody in Salo calls the women anything but Vilpas or Salon Vilpas. The Vikings are the only team in the club with a nickname, because the Panthers went with the name they carried while they were winning.
