Ebenezer Harcourt made his Nigeria debut at 15. That academy has since put Odinaka Okoro and Yusuf Abdullahi into the first team as well.

Shola Akinlade set the club up in February 2022. He runs Paystack, a fintech firm, which is why Lagos still calls the team The Tech Boys. The results that followed were not slow in coming. Sporting Lagos won the inaugural Naija Super 8 in 2023, beating Remo Stars 4–2 on penalties in the final, and added the Lagos FA Cup the same year under Paul Offor.

Promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League followed for 2023–24. The club lasted one season there before going back down. Rather than stall in the second tier, it won its conference in the Nigeria National League and topped the Super Four playoffs to earn an immediate return, this time for 2025–26.

Remo Stars remain the fixture that matters most, the so-called South-West Derby, sharpened by that penalty shootout in the Super 8 final. Lagos itself supplies the other rivalries, against Inter Lagos and Ikorodu City, played out in front of crowds at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
