Strasbourg Women

Home fixtures are played at the Centre sportif du Kochersberg in Truchtersheim, a 750-seat hall, but for the nights that draw a crowd — the derby, a decisive round — Strasbourg Achenheim Truchtersheim Handball moves into Strasbourg itself and fills the Rhénus Sport, which seats around 6,200.

The club is a 2008 merger of two neighbouring sides from the Kochersberg plateau, Truchtersheim HCL and FSE Achenheim. FSE Achenheim arrived with a title already behind it, having won the National 1 championship in 2002. The merged side spent its first fifteen years as Achenheim Truchtersheim Handball, adding National 1 titles of its own in 2013 and 2018, before a runner-up finish in Division 2 in 2023 sent it up to the Ligue Butagaz Énergie, French handball's top division. The promotion came with a new name, Strasbourg Achenheim Truchtersheim Handball, adopted that August.

Metz Handball is the club's fixed point of reference; the two meet in what is billed locally as the Derby du Grand Est. Among the players who passed through before the club reached the top flight, Laura Flippes spent eight years there, from 2005 to 2013, part of the generation that carried Achenheim through its National 1 years.

Les Piraths, as the club is known, still trains and plays most of its matches where it always has, in the Truchtersheim hall built for a village side rather than a first-division one — a reminder that the club began as two amateur teams from either side of the Kochersberg, not as a Strasbourg institution.
