Columbus in the early 1920s built its football around the Panhandles. After the 1922 season the club dropped that name and took the field as the Tigers, and under it played out its last stretch as an NFL franchise, from 1923 to 1926.
There was no fixed home to speak of. The Tigers used Neil Park, which held 12,000, but as often as not took their games on the road, following the same travelling habit that had defined the Panhandles years. They never won a championship, and by 1926 the franchise was gone from the league.
The colours that went with the name still read plainly enough: black, gold and white.
