«The Queens»
Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua has a main stadium that seats 3,000, and the Tokomanawa Queens play their home games there.
The club began in 2022 as a female-led operation. Its co-owners, Rachel Taulelei and Megan Compain, built it for the new Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa, the national women's league. They chose purple and turquoise as the colours, and the team is known as the Queens.
The first season went better than a debut usually does. Coached by Tania Tupu, the Queens won the 2022 title by beating Northern Kāhu in the Grand Final. Florencia Chagas took the Grand Final MVP award and Youth Player of the Year. Jaime Nared made the All-Star Five, and Stella Beck captained the side. Beck was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2024.
The next two finals went the other way. Northern Kāhu won the 2023 Grand Final 98–72, and in 2024 Tauranga Whai won 90–71. Those two clubs are now the Queens' main rivals, though neither pairing has a derby name.
For 2026 the club has announced Charlisse Leger-Walker and Krystal Leger-Walker as signings.
