Cuneta Astrodome
Pasay, Philippines
The Cuneta Astrodome stands where Roxas Boulevard meets Derham Street in Pasay. It is an indoor arena that has hosted basketball for the longest time. The arena opened in 1993 after construction began in 1991, funded by a loan from the Philippine National Bank. It was built under the administration of Mayor Pablo Cuneta, but the name honours Enrique Cuneta, a prominent official of the city.
A major renovation in 2006 replaced the seats and the flooring, and the renewed venue debuted on June 30 that year during a PBA game. The capacity remains 12,000 for basketball, though the configuration shifts for concerts. The venue held the league from 1993 to 1999 and again from 2001 to 2019, hosting over 30 championship series. The Philippines SEA Games 2019 branding hangs above the stands. A fire in November 2021 occurred while the arena was used as a vaccination site, but the structure remains standing.
It has also staged events for the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) , alongside the Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) and the Philippine Super Liga . The venue’s identity is tied to the local government, and the name has not changed to reflect a corporate sponsor. When the crowd fills the stands, the WE WIN AS ONE banners at the top of the arena catch the eye, a reminder of the community that gathers there.
