Gimnasio Municipal Puerto Montt
Puerto Montt, Chile
Formerly: Gimnasio Municipal
The gymnasium in Puerto Montt. The synthetic floor is the working heart of the place. It was laid down in 2015 as part of a renovation project that cost over 146 million Chilean pesos, and it is treated with a specific coating to keep the surface smooth. The area covers 732 m², and it meets the standards of the NBA and FIBA. It is a multi-purpose floor that sees basketball games and, on other nights, concerts. The capacity sits at 2,000 spectators. The venue is officially known as the Gimnasio Municipal Mario Marchant Binder, a name given in honor of the local politician and businessman who served as a councilman and later as a deputy from 1973 to 1977. He died in 1987. The main tenant, Puerto Montt Basquet, plays in the Liga Nacional de Básquetbol and the Liga Saesa. The facility has been in use since at least 1988, when the band Los Jaivas played a concert there, but the exact year of its opening is not found in the records.
