Kuxahallen
Ockelbo, Sweden
Formerly: Kuxahallen
Behind Ockelbo’s quiet streets, the arena sits under a different name now. It was Kuxahallen for decades, a local hall where residents played basketball on wooden floors. The space has since been renamed Bionärhallen, though the timing of the change is not precisely recorded. Inside, the surface is timber, fitted for the sport that has lived there since at least the 1980s.
The building holds 840 people. The men’s team reached the top tier in 1984-1985, a season that ended long before the club collapsed in 2007. A new entity took the ashes and climbed back to Superettan by 2020, but the hall itself remained a modest place.
It is not a grand stage. It is the townspeople’s common living room, as some have called it, a place where games are played without fuss or ceremony. The women’s team once competed in Elitserien, matching against larger cities, but the return journey was always quieter.
Outside, Sjöängsvägen 9 marks the spot. Some matches are played elsewhere — but this is where the routine happens. Players arrive, warm up on polished wood, and play out the season.
The hall does not announce itself with history books or plaques. It simply holds space for the game, season after season, through bankruptcies and reforms. It is a room with a floor, a roof, and people who come to watch.
Kuxahallen is no longer the name on the door. But the place remains the same, grounded in the town it has served for decades.Who plays here
