Mayor Vitaliano D. Agan Coliseum

Zamboanga City, Philippines

Formerly: Zamboanga City Coliseum

The Mayor Vitaliano D. Agan Coliseum is a multi-purpose arena in Barangay Tetuan on Don Alfaro Street. While the original name, the Zamboanga City Coliseum, persists in local conversation, the structure carries the weight of its political history. It was renamed in 2009 following the death of Mayor Vitaliano Agan, who served the city for over a decade before he passed away.

The building looks less like a cathedral for football and more like a functional hive for basketball. It has hosted the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) since 2018, accommodating the local Zamboanga Sikat, who have previously competed under different names. When the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) needed an out-of-town venue for the Philippine Cup, they did not travel to make up the numbers in another province; they came straight here. The arena has also served as a stage for the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup and The Asian Tournament, where the local Valientes claimed the overall championship.

Events here do not stop at the final buzzer. The coliseum has held major political rallies, including one for former President Rodrigo Duterte in March 2019, and hosted concerts like a performance by the international pop duo Air Supply in 2010. It has even seen Games 3 and 4 of the 2022 MPBL Finals, where the home team fell apart after the opener against the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards. The seating capacity sits at 10,000, a figure that has been settled after earlier records suggested higher numbers. The surface beneath the players is likely hardwood, fitting for the leagues that play here, though the exact material is not documented.
