Palais des Sports Salamatou Maïga
Bamako, Mali
Formerly: Palais des Sports, Palais des Sports de l'ACI 2000
The Palais des Sports Salamatou Maïga does not sit on a hill or frame a river; it stands in the Hamdallaye district of ACI 2000, a place where the air conditioning hums louder than the crowd. For a facility in a city where football usually commands the streets, this arena is distinct because it is strictly indoors and dedicated to the creak of wood on wood. The parquet floor, refurbished with modern lighting in 2026.
The building arrived in 2014. It was renamed to honour Salamatou Maïga, a basketball figure who died in the same year the arena opened. The change was administrative.
Inside the 5,000 seats, the atmosphere is different from the open-air grounds nearby. This enclosure allowed the region to host the 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket final.
