Sibir-Arena opened on August 13, 2023, after the original schedule collapsed; the first match was postponed in February 2023 for equipment testing, and the planned IIHF World Junior Championship was moved to Canada.
At the opening the capacity was 10,634; in February 2025, ahead of the KHL All-Star Game, it was expanded to 11,650. The single-game attendance record is 11,506, set on February 15, 2025, when HC Sibir played Metallurg Magnitogorsk. The arena hosts the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) club HC Sibir and the junior team Sibirskie Snaypery (MHL), and also takes concerts: SHAMAN performed on February 19, 2025, and Flo Rida is scheduled for 2026.
There is a protective thermal insulation cover, Ecoteck Heat Ice, that allows the surface to host events away from ice hockey, and an anti-icing heating system for the roof gutters. The total construction cost was approximately 17.2 billion rubles, higher than the initial 10 to 15 billion estimate because of inflation and material costs.
